Crempe, Jaqueline C. M. Graduation student1, 2 (presenting author); Amorim, Katia de Souza PhD1, 2 CInAPCe Program 1 Research Center on Human Development and Child Education 2 Department of Psychology and Education, FFCLRP - University of So Paulo Rationale: Epilepsy is a chronic disease of great clinical spectrum, mainly affecting children. Its treatment is generally done through medication and surgery, the latter one being barely used in Brazil, given its complexity and high costs. Due to the long history and its multiple definitions, epilepsy is still surrounded by several ideas that can generate stigma, influencing how people experience / conceive / deal with the disease. As such, the task of giving information to the patient and his/her family is considered as a central key on the treatment. Objective: The goal was to investigate, through a study case, the parents perspective regarding epilepsy, and also the (re)(de)(co)construction of meanings about epilepsy, its treatment and the child with epilepsy. The aim was to understand whether occurs the revision of postures/conceptions in relation to the disease and the child. Due to the novelty of the epilepsy surgery in Brazil, the goal was to evaluate such meanings movements during the child hospitalization for the topographic diagnosis of epilepsy. Methods: The subject pivot was a 10 y.o. girl, resident of a rural area of So Paulo state, who has been having, for seven years, unwieldy seizures. Three semi-structured interviews were carried out with the mother (at the time of admission; during the examination period; after the family-professionals meeting, in which the topographic diagnosis was presented). The selection of these three moments was made by understanding that the information is continuously in the process formation (in-formation), through the various relations, within specific context. To contextualize the case, four interviews were made with health professionals who followed closely parent-child during hospitalization. Interviews were audio-recorded. Qualitative analysis, based on the Network of Meanings perspective, included the comprehensive reading and interrogative posture regarding the discourses, the constitution of the corpus being made by the organization of data in thematic categories. It was then structured some issues in order to follow them up over the three interviews, to identify the occurrence of changes, through time and relationships. Results: Diverse explanations were presented as the cause of the seizure of their daughter - as retreat chicken pox (catapora recolhida", sic), cerebellum infection and herpes simplex encephalitis, some of which have been (re)considered within the mother-interviewer relation; Crisis were initially described as horrific. However, under the medication effect, it has lost some of its former characteristics, making it difficult to the mother to identify the crisis episodes - which were of greater concern to the mother; Changes on the mothers way of dealing with her daughters surgery - fear and uncertainty related to epilepsy, besides concern facing the risks of surgery. Conclusions: Not always the information process occurred on a continuous and integrated basis, taking place with gaps between the new, recently apprehended knowledge, and that which was previously built, resulting in a multiplicity of meanings, or even on an apparent disconnection and contradiction between them. The (re)(de)(co)constructed meanings constrained the mothers attitudes in dealing with the daughters treatment. It is here emphasized the importance of space for the information construction in order to increase the treatment adherence.
